Favorite Books Read in 2010, January to June

September 2nd, 2010

My favorite books are just that — my favorite books. Oh, sometimes they may be things that I think will be on awards and lists. Sometimes it’s that something in the book captures my imagination or spirit. I like to say “favorite” because these books are on my personal list; they may not be on yours. I also call it books “read in 2010″ because I sometimes review older books, and, well, it just seemed unfair that a book would be kept off the list because of its publication date!

Here are the favorite books read in 2010, from January to June, with full reviews at my old blog:

  • A Conspiracy of Kings by Megan Whalen Turner. 2010
  • All Unquiet Things by Anna Jarzab. 2010.
  • Charles and Emma by Deborah Heiligman. 2009.
  • Countdown by Deborah Wiles. 2010.
  • Heist Society by Ally Carter. 2010
  • Incarceron by Catherine Fisher. 2010
  • One Crazy Summer by Rita Williams-Garcia. 2010
  • Sisters Red by Jackson Pearce. 2010
  • The Dead-Tossed Waves by Carrie Ryan. 2010
  • The Enemy by Charlie Higson. 2010
  • The Incorrigible Children of Ashton Place: The Mysterious Howling by Maryrose Wood. 2010.
  • The Monstrumologist by Rick Yancey. 2009
  • The Museum of Mary Child by Cassandra Golds. 2009

I like your distinction of favorite vs. best. I like that a lot. Thank you for sharing this list with us. You have awesome taste and I know if you loved a book the chances are reasonably high that I’m going to enjoy it too.

    2. Doret says:

I was going to ask what about Finnikin of the Rock but than I noticed this was books read from Jan – June

Countdown, Heist Society and One Crazy Summer are all favorites of mine as well

Bleeding Violet by Dia Reeves , Compromised by Heidi Ayarbe, The Night Fairy by Laura Amy Schlitz and Guardian of the Dead by Karen Haley would also make my list

Jackson Pearce stopped in to sign copies of Sisters Red, today (I really liked that book) She was very nice. Its always a great thing when you meet an author who’s book you like and they’re cool.

    3. I agree, but I still love Sharon Draper’s OUT OF MY MIND. Another one of my favorites is SHIP BREAKER.

      Keep up the good work!

    4. Liz B says:

Michelle, using “favorite” instead of “best” also means no one can argue with me about the list! And aw, thanks!

Doret, thanks for the recs. The weekend project is to organize my books so I’ll shift those to the top of the pile. Hm, only a blogger would say “my holiday project is sorting books!”

June, I LOVE Ship Breaker. I’ll look for Sharon Draper’s book.

    5. Colleen says:

CHARLES & EMMA is totally one of my all time favs – such a great title and really it needs to be read and enjoyed by adults also. Good stuff.

I really should think of something like for myself…if only I could get this organized!

    6. Colleen says:

      Le Sigh…

      I meant:

I really should think of something like THIS for myself…

Meaning a list. And maybe proof reading comments before I hit submit?!
