On July 22nd through 24th, while attending San Diego International Comic-Con, I ran around to as many of my favorite kids comics creators as I could and asked them all the exact same questions. Keep in mind, exhibit halls are crazy loud and crazy busy, so there is a lot of background noise. Let me know in the comments if you have trouble hearing anything and I’ll translate for you.

Doug TenNapel has been a favorite of ours here at GC4K for some time. We’ve talked about reading his books in The Reading Pile, Mike reviewed

Question Tuesday: Fans Taking Over

Robin Brenner
Posted by Robin Brenner on January 24th, 2012

I’m looking for some advice regarding the teen anime club…We started fine without any problems but within the last few  months I’ve had the yaoi fandom take over the club. It’s just 6 girls out of around 15 members, but they really tend to dominate and make the others uncomfortable…Nothing I say seems to have any impact beyond a few minutes of toning it down, then they’re right back at it. Has this issue ever arisen in your club? — A teen librarian at a public library in Colorado

First, for those who don’t know, yaoi refers to manga… Read More

Smile fans, rejoice: Raina Telgemeier just unveiled the cover for her next project, Drama, and it looks like a winner. Telgemeier didn’t provide many details about the book, but noted that it would be on sale in September. And speaking of Telgemeier, she’ll be the Cartoonist in Residence at the Charles M. Schulz Museum this February. Check out her blog for the full list of events.

Preview: Jinx

Jinx is a grown-up version of an older Archie comic, Little Jinx, that was a favorite of mine when I was a kid. In the original, Jinx was a mischievous six-year-old who often sparred with her father; now she is a teenager and the sparring has gotten a little more serious—but only a little. Writers J. Torres (Alison Dare, Lola: A Ghost Story) and illustrators Rick Burchett and Terry Austin keep the tone light, so that Jinx reads like a smarter version of a teenage sitcom.

The book is due out in the spring, but Torres and the Archie folks are at the American Library Association’s midwinter meeting this weekend to show it around. For those who can’t make it, here’s a sample. Enjoy!
