Thanks to the Children’s Book Council, I am starting a video blog. The CBC came full steam last week when they organized a Kick Off – Cocktail Party for their newly established Diversity Committee. It made me seriously consider coming out of hiding and living in front of the curtain instead of behind. There’s also passion for this subject as you will see, hence the video blog… Read More

Last night’s CBC Diversity Committee Kickoff was OH SO FUN! Here are some of photos and there’s more to come — tomorrow. I got to this post pretty late…sorry. The Children’s Book Council introduced new diversity committee and there were plenty of people in-the-house with great ideas and the future is bright for diversity.

I was honored to be invited to the Children’s Book Council Diversity Kickoff event tonight!!! It’s such a wonderful and forward-thinking initiative that I asked CBC’s Executive Director, Robin Adelson, to share the vision and thoughts behind forming this committee.

The committee is charged with shaping an initiative that will focus on increasing diverse representation within the children’s book publishing industry, comprising those people who work

Our fabulous librarian just handed me Kadir Nelson’s, Heart and Soul The Story of America and African Americans (Harper Collins, 2011). At first, the weight of the book struck me, as did the heartening illustrations on every page of the book. That’s how deep and heavy the pictures are. If you want to take a trip back in time, through the story and the life like images in HEART AND SOUL, buy this book!!! It could easily be incorporated into a history class, as it tells the story of America and African Americans from colonial days through to the civil… Read More
