Red Hat Indian Subcontinent and Lotus Learning systems are teaming up to modernize India's educational system by using open source software. "K Renuka Raju, founder-correspondent, Lotus Learning Systems Society, said, "Our curriculum uses technology as a delivery system, and gives students the skills they need to work in a progressive environment. Good education must be both, convenient and affordable to access." They also appear to have figured out the IT (infrastructure) bottlenecks that oftentimes stands in the way of meeting school related technological needs. "Open source gives schools flexibility and control over their IT infrastructure, and freedom from expensive licensing schemes. Open source also helps in building a participative community of educationists and technologists." This sounds VERY interesting and almost seems too good to be true. Another post on the topic is here and I echo the sentiments of the post writer and comments on the Couros blog.
